From Your Therapist...

The relationship between you and your therapist is vital to the success of therapy. In fact, research shows that 60% of the benefit of therapy comes from a good relationship with your therapist. You have the right to expect your therapist to keep your information private and confidential. Your therapist should act as a professional and respect your autonomy to make decisions at all times. While your therapist may at times offer challenging statements, you should always expect these to be given respectfully. Your therapist will collaborate with you to develop goals, listening carefully to your story and occasionally asking clarifying questions. Together you will be able to develop and craft strategies that you can practice ‘outside of session. This helps build momentum for change and gives you and your therapist information on what works and what does not work. Implementing change is sometimes difficult and will be always your choice.
